Ryan ‘Thundersmith’ – Have been drumming since the age of 12 and throughout my musical journey, have drawn influences from an eclectic plethora of genres, bands and drummers. I adore everything from Motown, Metal, Rock, Jazz, Big Band, Blues, Americana, Blues, Country and Folk. Some of the bands and drummers I am influenced by range from Rival Sons (Michael Miley), Led Zeppelin (John Bonham), Testament (Dave Lombardo, Paul Bostaph), The Beatles (Ringo Starr), The Cadillac Three (Neil Mason), Buddy Holly (Jerry Allison), Brothers Osborne (Adam Box), Periphery (Matt Halpern), Black Sabbath (Bill Ward, Bev Bevan, Tommy Clufetos), Ozzy Osbourne (Brian Tichy), The Who (Keith Moon), Cream (Ginger Baker), Howlin’ Wolf/Muddy Waters (Sam Lay), Goto (Jeff Porcaro), Jimmy Hendrix (Mitch Mitchell), Earl Palmer, ‘Philthy Animal’ Phil Taylor (Mötorhead), Dave Grohl (Nirvana, QOTSA), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Clyde Stubbyfield (James Brown), Ryan Leger/Clayton Holyoak/Mike Novak(Every Time I Die), Britt Turner (Blackberry Smoke), Dane Campbell (Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons) Having played in various originals and covers bands, from playing to a click in an electro rock band, playing syncopated rhythms in a funk and jazz covers band, playing fast paced indie, heavy stoner rock in the ilk of Kyuss all the way to instrumental progressive post-rock in the style of ‘And So I Watch You From Afar’, my style has certainly evolved and become more varied and interesting. I’m incredibly passionate about my craft and have been lucky to not only meet so many other awesome drummers on tour, but have shared the stage with some pretty incredible bands all-over the UK like Brothers Osborne, The Quireboys, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons and The Temperance Movement. And not to forget, I have made some pretty damn good friends from drummers to fans and festivals promoters through my drumming, namely via The Outlaw Orchestra.
