Genres and style

Scotty's work spans an unusually wide spectrum. His core disciplines are kit and percussion, and his career has taken him from orchestral concert halls to West End touring productions, recording studios, and ceilidh dancefloors around the world. Whether the brief calls for tight rock grooves, orchestral percussion, or the infectious energy of a live ceilidh, Scotty is equally at home.

Based in Glasgow City, Scotland, United Kingdom

Glasgow is the perfect hub for a drummer with Scotty's schedule. He is well placed to cover Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen, and the wider central belt — and with international travel firmly on the table, no project is out of reach wherever in the world it is taking shape. For remote studio work, his credentials speak for themselves.

About Scotty

Scotty has played drums since the age of 12, studying Orchestral Percussion at school before taking kit lessons with Lee Agnew of Nazareth. He went on to study Orchestral Percussion at Napier University in Edinburgh under Heather Corbett, Principal Percussion of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, before progressing to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, where he studied with Pam Dow and Martin Gibson of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and kit and Latin with Dave Hassell.

While studying, he toured extensively across the UK with original rock band Bartok and recorded at Glasgow's CAVA Studios. After graduating, he secured a teaching post with East Dunbartonshire Council Instrumental Music Service, where he is now Senior Instrumental Instructor.

His freelance career is equally impressive. Scotty performs regularly with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra of Scottish Opera. He has played kit and percussion in touring West End productions of Sunset Boulevard, Fame! The Musical, and The Full Monty — and has appeared on the Jonathan Ross Show. In 2000 he founded Bahookie, which has grown from a traditional working ceilidh band into an internationally acclaimed Rock/Ceilidh act in demand across the globe.
