About Russ

Russ grew up in Surrey and has been drumming since he was nine years old, inspired by seeing the late, great Cozy Powell on Top of the Pops. His teachers have included Vic Pantling (himself a student of legendary big band drummer and educator Max Abrams), Military and jazz specialist Nick Slater, and the incomparable Bill Bruford of Yes, Genesis, and King Crimson fame — a lineage that speaks for itself.

Over a professional career spanning more than 20 years, Russ has accumulated international touring experience, UK national live television appearances, and UK-wide theatre tours. Beyond live work, he has been involved in songwriting, recording, drum loop creation, and computer-based music production. Since 2002 he has also taught drumming, working with students ranging from eight to eighty years old.

His session credits include Owen Paul, Genesish, Genesis Visible Touch, Ultimate Elton & the Rocket Band, The Maple Verse, The Book of Genesis, Nick Fletcher & John Hackett, Fragile, Curfew, and England (Garden Shed Reunion).
